P.O.S.T. Academy

Enroll an Officer in the P.O.S.T. Academy: 

The Saint Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office operates a regional Police Training Academy that offers a Peace Officers Standards Training (P.O.S.T.), Basic Law Enforcement Academy, a 90 hour Correctional Officer Training Course, Juvenile Academy and specialized training courses.

Basic Law Enforcement Academy Sessions last approximately eleven (11) weeks and consist of an average of over 400 hours. Upon successful completion of the Academy, students take the Peace Officers Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) test administered by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement. Those who attain a passing score on the P.O.S.T. test become certified by the State of Louisiana as Peace Officers.

Academy students participate in hands-on-training including firearms training, TASER certification, SFST certification, O.C. Pepper spray certification, etc., realistic decision making scenarios, fingerprinting, crime scene investigations, vehicle tactical stops, and defensive tactics.

There are 2 full time P.O.S.T. Certified and FBI/IDC Certified deputies assigned to the Training Academy. The Academy is located at 1815 Terrace Highway, Saint Martinville, LA.

Our Instructors include members of the Saint Martin and Saint Landry Parish Sheriff’s Offices, the FBI, Louisiana State Police, Lafayette Police Department, the St. Martin Parish District Attorney’s Office and other area agencies, as well as specialists from the medical profession and other private entities.
