Suspect In Last Week’s Attempted Armed Robbery Released From Hospital and Booked In To The St. Martin Parish Correctional Center

Second Suspect Remains Hospitalized In Serious Condition

(St. Martinville, LA.)-Earlier today, Joseph Broussard Jr., 26, Morse, LA., one of the suspects who was responsible for last Tuesday’s attempted armed robbery in Breaux Bridge, was released from an area hospital and was initially booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and then subsequently released to investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was then extradited back to St. Martin Parish on charges related to the March 21, 2017, incident at 1016 Auguillard Rd. in Breaux Bridge, where investigators believe two suspects tried to rob the homeowner in the early morning hours.

Joseph Broussard was arrested on the following charges:

(1 ct.) Attempted First Degree Murder LA. R.S. 14:27.30

(1 ct.) Attempted Aggravated Burglary LA. R.S. 14:27.60

Following his arrest, he was booked in to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges and at the time of this release, bond had not been set. The second suspect, Drewe Christopher Schexnider 31, Kaplan, LA remains in critical condition in a local hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing.
