Breaux Bridge Man Arrested In Connection With Breaux Bridge Shooting

(St. Martinville, LA.)-This afternoon, Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of Hebert Avenue, Breaux Bridge, LA., at approximately 12:00 p.m. this afternoon. Upon arrival Deputies discovered that one man sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Upon further investigation, it was learned that two black male subjects entered the home of the victim and attempted to rob him, a struggled ensued resulting in the shooting of the victim. Both suspects fled the scene in their vehicle. A short time later one of the suspects was involved in a traffic crash on Sawmill Hwy., whereby he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies were able to apprehend and arrest the suspect who fled the crash a short time later and he has been identified as Chance Sam, 19, Breaux Bridge.

Chance Sam faces the following charges in connection with the traffic crash and faces additional charges in connection with the shooting:

LA. R.S. 14:99 Reckless Operation

LA. R.S. 14:108.1B Aggravated Flight From an Officer

LA. R.S. 14:100 Hit and Run

The second suspect has been identified as Wilbert Derousselle, 17, Breaux Bridge. He is wanted for questioning in connection with this incident.
